Like all Good
Spider Webs, January 19, 2009 By W. McKelvy (Memphis, TN) A Moment
of Quiet is Nothing to Fear is one of those rare children's books which is
much more than the sum of its engaging illustrations and delightful
Seussian verse. Captured inside is a moment of delight as equally enjoyable
by a lone reader as it is by a reader and listener sharing together. Why I love
this book for my children and myself..., January 13, 2009 SDChurchill (Charlotte, NC) This book
resonated with me very well as a mother of two busy children. Whether they
are in school, My Gym, art classes, camps, playing soccer games, etc they
are always on the move. Did I mention they are under 5! Since reading this
book I have been more conscience of their quiet time and try to relax as I
let their imagination soar. At first it was difficult because they would
tease each other, fight, or just not know what to do with themselves. Be
patient. The message in this book has been a great gift. It is rewarding
and fun to watch them role play, create new games, and enjoy just being
kids. I highly recommend this book for both kids and parents. | |||||||||||||||
Take a moment
to read this story!, January 12, 2009
Reading this story to my children gives the experience the author conveys throughout the book....taking time to get into the moment and let your mind wander and become clear. As a child psychologist, I am so thrilled to have a book to share with my three daughters that underscores the importance of balancing a busy life with built-in downtime for the magic of imagination and intuition to flourish! A truly charming read with great substance! |
A Must Read for
Busy People -- , January 11, 2009 MMJ (San Francisco, CA USA) A Moment of
Quiet is a cleverly written story of a girl with too much to do. She is encouraged to take a break by her grandfather, and when she does, her imagination takes over. The book's prose are Dr. Seuss style of rhyming which delight children of
all ages and leaves them with a truly important message - slow down and take a look around to discover a whole world of wonderful things. This is a must have for any children's library.
Sure to be a
Classic, January 11, 2009 By Oakleigh Ryan (Janesville, WI) There are
certain books that I will always remember. Make Way for Ducklings and Where
the Wild Things Are. This book should join those ranks with its beautiful
illustrations and story that sings along. It is book that you will surely
think of as you cuddle up with your favorite little friend.
This is A
Classroom Favorite!, January 10, 2009 By Julie H. Bremer (Mill Valley, CA) This book is
both fun and imaginative! My First Grade Class LOVED the story and the illustrations!
Anyone who could have watched the enjoyment on the faces of those students
would have already ordered their copy of this book. I can tell it was a hit
because every student has requested that we read it again! Coco makes us
realize that we all need the time and space to stop and daydream! Buy it for
your busy kids!
A wonderful
message for both children and adults!, January 8, 2009 By Rachel Taptich (San Francisco, CA) I just love
the message that this book is passing along. As a first grade teacher and a
mother, I find that this story serves to remind us all to slow down and enjoy
the quiet moments. It asks children to explore their own, rich imaginations
for those corners where true adventure awaits them. It gives parents
permission to not over-schedule their children, reminding them that children
need to learn how to create their own entertainment and fun. My little girl
loves this story, as do I.
Anyone who has
children should have this book in their library!, January 7, 2009 By Mom in SF (San Francisco, CA United States) The perfect
book for busy families! The poetry and delightful illustrations, expressed
with whimsy and warmth (and truth!) delivers a message we can all take to heart.
A Moment of Quiet is Nothing to Fear gives moms, dads and kids permission to
step off the fast track and take time out for some much needed daydreaming.
This book makes a great gift to have and give!
Not to be
missed., January 7, 2009 By Carolyn Edwards (San Francisco, CA) What a
wonderful, much needed story about the gift of time and an acquaintance with
one's own imagination. I read this book not only to my own acquisitive and
over-scheduled children, but to a class of 1st graders, all of whom seemed
somehow thirsty for this message about slowing down.
The magic of this book is its ability to convey something important, through
a captivating story and illustrations that my children love to pore over.
Everyone loves this book -- as evidenced by its being the runaway best seller
at my school's recent book fair.
Unlocking the
power of creativity for children, January 7, 2009 By Christy MacLear, Executive Director, Philip Johnson Glass House (New Canaan, CT) The
challenge for any parent or educator goes beyond engaging a child in
independent, un-aided creative play - the real challenge is teaching them how
to choose that experience for themselves. This wonderful tale illustrates the
transition from our "stuff" experiences to our "mindful"
experiences and how the power of that (once experienced) is so much more
fulfilling. A timely tale for the over-programmed or new economy. Also a tale
for finding the way to activate the non-digital parts of our brains.
Best Children's
Book Ever!, January 6, 2009
As a retired teacher, I've read hundreds of books for children. This book fills the bill in all areas. First of all I noticed the colorful illustrations. The animations jumped off the pages. Each page contained limited sentences - (great for keeping the attention of little ones!) But what makes the book really outstanding is the message! It is a reminder to us all to slow down a little - find some quiet time...let our imaginations run free...if only for a little while! Kudos to this first time children's author. I sincerely hope it is not her last! |
A must read for
busy people of all ages!, December 5, 2008 By Jessica Isley, Director of Merchandising, Gymboree This book is
a wonderful story for both children and adults alike. With all of life's
clutter, "A Moment of Quiet" offers a refreshing reminder that it
is okay to slow down - and by slowing down, much more can be gained than
lost. A must read for busy people of all ages!
